Digital Videos & DV Equipment using formats based on DV is now becoming available to wedding videographers. It should be your requirement. DV digital video is the highest-quality of video reproduction available to the consumer, surpassing DVD.
DVD - digital versatile disk - a coming high-capacity successor to the CD-ROM, with the ability to hold about 2 hours of digital video and using the MPEG-2 standard. DVD-R Video is now an affordable and effective means of high-quality archival release for wedding productions. it also offers interactivity not possible with tape.
DVD-R - DVD Recordable - the specific type of DVD economically viable for low volume duplication, as with wedding videos. Some DVD players will not play DVD-R.
Editing - shortening of the original recording to remove flaws. This can be done by sequencing the recording and playback of editing VCRs or by used of computer software and digitized video in a nonlinear editing system. Most wedding videos now use the latter.
Hi8 - this has been replaced by digital systems. Do not use a wedding videographer using this format!
MPEG - Motion Picture Experts Group, which developed the hardware and software schemes for compressing video for transmission over the Internet or distribution for personal computer reproduction.
MPEG-1 - Used in CD-ROMs, personal computer video files, Internet downloads, and Video CDs. Quality varies widely based on degree of compression. For some, this is a practical way of storing and distributing wedding video segments.
MPEG-2 - High-quality variant of MPEG now used by DVD-Videos.
MPEG-3 - also know as MP3; it is a means of distributing digital music over the Internet and replaying it with small portable devices.
Non-Linear Editing (NLE) - bears the same relationship to tape-based editing as word processing software with computers due to paper and typewriters. It allows tremendous flexibility, and has been adopted most by wedding videographers.
NTSC - National Television Standards committee, which devised the scheme for colour television technology in the United States. NTSC is used in the US, Canada, Mexico, Japan, The Philippines, and many countries in South America. If you plan to send your wedding video to other than these countries, you will need this conversion.
On-camera Light - small battery-powered light mounted on top of camera. Potentially annoying !
PAL - Phase Alternation Line, the standard for colour television in the United Kingdom, most of Europe, and many former British territories; probably the most widely used standard.

Special Effect Transitions - a change between scenes other than a straight cut, such as a dissolve, geometric wipe, or digital effect move; achieves a more gradual change, but is often overused.
Streaming Videos - for Internet transmission of video on demand, where playback can begin well before the entire video is transmitted. Segments are buffered on the client computer. This is rapidly gaining popularity in wedding applications.
SuperVHS (SVHS) - a higher-resolution variant of consumer VHS.
Three-Chip Camera - a professional camera having separate image sensors and a beam-splitting prism to process the three primarily colours. Three-chip cameras give sharper images with more accurate colour and tolerate the high contrasts of white gowns and formal attire. Many use one-chip cameras because they are lighter and cheaper.
